What You Should Know About X-Rays

X-rays are the most basic form of imaging tests, which are diagnostic procedures used to view the body’s internal structures. You do not need to do anything to prepare for an X-ray and the test should not cause any significant discomfort. These tests can help physicians diagnose fractures, tumors, arthritis, lung damage, and more.

X-rays utilize minimal amounts of radiation in order to create images. Radiation exposure from an x-ray should not cause any damage to an adult or child, but could be dangerous for a developing baby, therefore let your technician know if you are expecting. Additionally, if you have received other radiation-based imaging tests in the last year you should tell the doctor.

Exposure to imaging radiation several times in a short time could be damaging. Otherwise, these are one of the safest medical procedures available!
